Point Blank and Smirnoff Sound Collective took over fabric’s room 2 for an evening of panel discussions & masterclasses

Last month Point Blank curated and hosted a very special event in collaboration with Smirnoff Sound Collective & fabric. This 360 masterclass session – entitled ‘From Dancefloors To Record Stores’ – was designed to help inspire and enable creativity in music production, promotion and performance skills.

Part of the ‘Women Shaping Tomorrow’ series, the event was created to help break down barriers for women in electronic music, with the event series announced on International Women’s Day and forming part of the Smirnoff Sound Collective’s commitment to make dance music a more inclusive place. Check out some of the highlights from the workshop below.

After a welcome Smirnoff cocktail, Point Blank launched the evening in fabric’s Room 2 with an industry panel discussion, streamed live on Facebook and comprising of Kate Simko (DJ / Producer / Composer), Judy Griffith (fabric Booker) and Mandy Parnell (Mastering Engineer) alongside their own Carly Hordern as host for the evening.

This was followed by a more practical session with Kate Simko, aimed at inspiring creativity within the studio. They were then joined by Point Blank instructor Paul Ressel who hosted a hardware jam session kitted out with TR-8’s, TB-3’s and a Juno, before the girls were invited to play their own music in Room 1 on fabric’s legendary sound system.
Following the workshop, Point Blank student Hollie Price was invited to shadow Kate & her team at the LEO gig at the Battersea Arts Centre, gaining some behind the scenes insight into a live electronic/orchestral music performance.
